Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope you have had a great start to the new year… This was our first week back to work and we have been busy.. The two weeks off was very relaxing and it is always good to have a break from work/school during the holiday season. On the break, I came across a small part of an article that I wanted to share with you…..Three-Minute Meditation. Since we wear so many hats, it is always good to take time for yourself…and it can be anything that makes you happy. I have decided that for me…I am going to take more time to just relax/meditate/devotional. Even if you don’t think meditation is for you…that is OK…just make sure to take time for yourself so you can be a better “you”.
- Find a peaceful place where you won’t be interrupted
- Gently rest your palm over your heart. Concentrate on a person, place, song, or memory you cherish. The idea is to feel love and to concentrate it as energy in your mid-chest
- Visualize any thoughts as clouds drifting in the sky. Let them float by and out of your awareness.
- Observe the sensations in your heart area; heat, coolness, bliss, compassion, release of pressure, vibration. Over time and with practice, you’ll feel the positive energy in your chest that will flow into your body.

As the holiday season approaches and businesses “close up shop” for a couple of days, many employers may postpone their hiring process until after the first of the year. This temporary freeze in progress can be extremely frustrating, especially for those who spend every free minute searching, applying, calling, faxing, e-mailing, and worrying for the next job (and…um…paycheck!). Even though HR offices may halt progress, doesn’t mean job-seekers necessarily should. Read on for tips on how to make the most of your precious time and to network during this holiday season.
Going to any holiday parties, anyone? If so, then you have a prime opportunity to meet and mingle with acquaintances and others you don’t know so well. Take advantage of this by eliciting similar interests out of those you correspond with. After you feel comfortable enough in the conversation, causally mention that you are looking for employment and would welcome any suggestions. The other person may probe you for more information or may introduce to another, to which then you can speak more about what you are looking for and your related work experience.
It wouldn’t hurt to have business cards available just in case someone asks for your contact information. Websites such as www.vistaprint.com offer a variety of attractive business cards for almost every type of business or company. Be sure that the card and your e-mail address reflect your professionalism.
Not invited to the party of choice? Find a friend or acquaintance that is going and then drop subtle hints; for example, “I’ll love to go to that party” or “I wonder if [Joe] is going, I’d love to talk to him.” You just might get the extended invitation that you are seeking; and if you do, re-read the above paragraphs. Best of luck and happy networking!
Congratulations to all of our December 2011 Graduates!!! We hope your time here at Tusculum was memorable and we enjoyed working with you!
Several marching bands, military units and military support organizations participated in this year’s Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown Knoxville. KPD, KSO and various other first responders participated as well. The TN ANG fly over was a highlight as several Tusculum students and Alumni were in the parade.
The parade was followed by the annual ETMAC (East TN Military Affairs Council) lunch at the Convention Center where over 600 active duty military, veterans and veterans support personnel were in attendance. Tusculum College purchased a table for ten for the luncheon in honor of TMAG (Tusculum Military Assistance Group). Seven TMAG students, Ryan Otto, Michael Curry and Tom McKay represented Tusculum College at the event.

New dates added for Spring 2012, Knoxville and Morristown.
