Dr. Carlton K. Larsen has served as assistant to the president for planning and institutional effectiveness at Tusculum College since June 2012
Larsen came to Tusculum from Pennsylvania State University’s Altoona College, where he served as assistant dean for policy and planning, as well as program coordinator for political science. Previously at Penn State Altoona, he served as associate director of academic affairs.
In his career he has also taught political science at Drake University, Centre College and at Seaton Hall University.
In his role at Tusculum, Larsen is responsible for the collection of institutional effectiveness data for decision making and manage accreditation activities related to regional and specialized program accreditation. He oversees all college wide external reporting requirements, as well as testing, surveys and student learning assessments. He provides data support to the administrative leadership and assists with the forecasting of fiscal and other resource needs for budget development.
Dr. Larsen has a Ph.D. in political science and international relations and a master’s degree in political science from Rutgers University, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at the University of California at San Diego.
He has been widely published including articles in Food and Foodways, The Journal of Developing Societies and the Latin American Anthropology Review. He has also served as former chair of the membership committee of the New Political Science Section of the American Political Science Association.
