Deborah Callan, Assistant Professor of Education, began teaching as adjunct faculty for the GPS and residential programs during the 2008-09 academic year. She has an extensive employment history (39+ years) in public schools at the teacher (sped and gen ed), consultant and central office level. Also experience working with state department of education and in state residential schools for individuals with mental retardation.
Dr. Callan earned her doctorate in Special Education Administration and Supervision at Virginia Tech. Her master’s was completed in Special Education- Emotional Disturbance at Radford University and her B.S. in Elementary Education at East Tennessee State University. She is past president of Virginia Council for Exceptional Children and has served in many other capacities in this professional organization.
Debbie is from Greeneville, Tennessee and returned to the area after retiring from the public school system in Virginia. She spends her free time raising miniature schnauzers, cooking and having fun with her extended family. Theater and fine arts are special interests. Travel is a must.
