Dr. Lisa Johnson, Associate Vice President for Student Success and Assistant Professor of Education, joined the faculty of Tusculum College in 2004. Dr. Johnson previously served director of the School of Education. She has also taught classes in the residential college in the area of special education and classroom management and discipline and also serves as Director of the Learning Center.
During her 15 years in public education in the Greeneville City School System, she has taught in a variety of special education settings, including consultation, resource, inclusion and vocational training of the special education population. While at Greeneville High School, Dr. Johnson conducted research for the School of Improvement Team and participated on various Southern Association of Colleges and Schools committees. She also served on the school discipline and incentives committee. Dr. Johnson worked with the faculty of the science department to provide instruction for the Gateway Science Component to special needs students and served on the committee for developing the Gateway Science Remediation Program.
She obtained a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University. Her dissertation addressed the facilitators of success of women in leadership. She earned her ME.D from East Tennessee State University in 1995 in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis and also completed extensive work at the Master’s level in special education.
Dr. Johnson is involved in many community activities. She shares her passion for horses by educating the public on the issue of equine abuse and neglect. She enjoys training, trail riding and competing in shows in the Knoxville area. Dr. Johnson is currently pursuing a private pilot’s license and enjoys photography, playing a variety of musical instruments, gardening, hiking and camping.
Dr. Johnson has one daughter and lives on her horse farm in the Meadow Creek community. She attends Christ United Methodist Church.
