Scott McDermott was born in Hannibal, Missouri, and grew up in Western Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University in 2014, his M.A. from Saint Louis University in 2009, and his B.A. from Cornell University in 1994.
Dr. McDermott specializes in early American history, with an emphasis on religious, legal, political, and cultural history. He teaches courses in U.S. History and in Western and world history. His biography Charles Carroll of Carrollton: Faithful Revolutionary was published by Scepter Publishers in 2002. He is currently revising his dissertation, “Body of Liberties: Godly Constitutionalism and the Origin of Written Fundamental Law in Massachusetts, 1634-1666,” into a book manuscript.
Previously, Dr. McDermott taught at Saint Louis University, Saint Louis Community College, and Lindenwood University. He received the José M. Sanchez Memorial Teaching Award from Saint Louis University’s Department of History in 2011.
