Tusculum’s DeBusk stepping down from athletic director position, to remain head football coach

Frankie DeBusk has stepped down as athletic director at Tusculum College. He will continue to serve as head football coach for the Pioneer Football program.

DeBusk has served as the past eight years as athletic director at Tusculum College. He was named interim director of athletics in August 2007 and was promoted to the full-time post later that year. DeBusk is entering his 18th season at the helm of the football program.

DeBusk, who is transitioning because of personal reasons, said that he will be focused on the current football season, which kicks off Saturday, Sept. 5, with an away match up against the University of Virginia at Wise.

“Because of personal reasons, this is the best decision for me and for Tusculum College at this time,” said DeBusk. “Tusculum College has a tremendous athletic program, and I expect to see it have continued success.”

The Tusculum athletic department supports 16 sports teams, including men’s and women’s lacrosse, which were added in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

During DeBusk’s tenure as athletic director, Tusculum has captured 15 South Atlantic Conference championships, nine SAC Tournament titles and 24 teams have advanced to NCAA Division II postseason play.

According to Tusculum President Nancy B. Moody, Associate Athletic Director Deborah Davis has been named to serve in the interim.
