Students begin to return in early August for fall 2013 semester

Construction of the two new apartment-style residence halls is in its final phases and the buildings are to be ready for students to occupy this fall.

August is just around the corner, time for students to begin returning to campus for the fall 2013 semester.

Resident assistants and Living and Learning Community PALS are to move-in on Friday, August 2, and on Tuesday, August 6, students who are working with the BTG program will move in.

Friday, Aug. 9, will be move-in day for a number of students. Scheduled to move-in that day will be orientation team leaders, members of the football team, athletic training students, student teachers, members of the band and colorguard and BTG students.

Returning on Monday, Aug. 12, will be members of student leadership groups including the President’s Society, Pioneer Ambassadors, Bonners, Student Government Association, PALS and mass media. Also moving-in that day will members of the men’s and women’s soccer, cross country and volleyball teams.

Freshmen and returning students will move-in on Friday, Aug. 16. That day will also be the final Advanced Registration Day. The next Advanced Registration Day will be Friday, July 26.

Returning students move-in on Saturday, Aug. 17.

As you help your student prepare to move or return to Tusculum College next month, what items are best to bring to settle your student into residence hall life?

Necessities to bring are extra-long twin sheets/linens, bath towels, shower shoes, laundry detergent, shower caddy, alarm clock, pillows, toiletries, laundry basket and cleaning supplies. Also remember to bring a telephone, UL-approved surge protector and an Ethernet card and cord (needed for network access).

Some optional items that are recommended include under-bed storage, a 3.1-cubic-foot or smaller refrigerator, microwave, computer, a dry-erase board, a fan, an answering machine, a stereo with no subwoofers, a television, microwavable dishes, iron/ironing board, coaxial cable, a coffee maker, can opener, lock box and crock pot.  Students who live in the apartments are also permitted to bring George Foreman grills.

Items not allowed in the residence halls for safety reasons are extension cords, candles, incense, fireworks, hot plates, popcorn poppers, space heaters, toasters/toaster ovens, air conditioners and guns of any kind including pellet, water or paint guns.
