Series bringing music, drama and dance to Tusculum

Motivational speaker and hypnotist Wayne Lee’s presentation on Monday, Aug. 29, will be the first event in the Tusculum College Arts Outreach Acts, Arts, Academia 2011-12 performance and lecture series.A nationally known a cappella group, bestselling author, choral and orchestral concerts and Carnival! are all coming to the stage at Tusculum College as part of the Acts, Arts, Academia 2011-12 performance and lecture series.

The series will feature a concert by hit vocal group Street Corner Symphony, a lecture by bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb, Central Ballet’s production of the “The Story of Esther, and concerts by the Tusculum College Community Chorus and the college’s Band program.

Theatre-at-Tusculum will be presenting three plays in the coming year: the musical “Carnival!” in November, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in February and “The Diary of Anne Frank” in April.

Acts, Arts, Academia is a program of Tusculum College Arts Outreach that brings outside performers and lecturers to the campus and community as well as spotlights the talents of those at Tusculum and the surrounding region. It is supported by the late Dr. Sam Miller in memory of Agnes Ault Miller, Society of Cicero, Hearts for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Outreach.

This year’s line-up includes:

– “Set Your GPS for Success,” a high-energy presentation by motivational speaker and hypnotist Wayne Lee, Monday, Aug. 29, in the auditorium of the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts building;

– A concert by Street Corner Symphony, the hit a cappella group from NBC’s “The Sing Off,” Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium;

– An evening with New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb, who will discuss her latest novels, Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Behan Arena Theatre on the lower level of the Annie Hogan Byrd building;

– Theatre-at-Tusculum’s production of the musical “Carnival!” on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 4-6 and 11-13, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium;

– Tusculum College Band Christmas Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium, featuring the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Handbell Choir

– Tusculum College Community Chorus Christmas Concert on Monday, Dec. 12, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium;

– Central Ballet Theatre’s production of “The Story of Esther,” Friday-Sunday, Jan. 20-22,  in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium;

– Theatre-at-Tusculum’s production of the Broadway musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19 and 24-26, in the Behan Arena Theatre;

– Tusculum College Band Winter Concert on Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium, featuring the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Handbell Choir;

– Theatre-at-Tusculum’s production of “The Diary of Anne Frank,” Friday-Sunday, April 20-22 and 27-29 in the Behan Arena Theatre;

– Tusculum College Band Spring Concert on Thursday, April 26, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium, featuring the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Handbell Choir, and

– Tusculum College Community Chorus Spring Concert on Monday, April 30, in the Annie Hogan Byrd auditorium.
