Five alumni give students a glimpse into their business careers

Four Tusculum College alumni visited Dr. Michelle Freeman’s auditing course to share their experiences thus far as accounting professionals. Business majors had the opportunity to learn from another alumnus during the annual awards banquet at the semester.

The students heard from two alumni on April 19. Brooke  Compton ’09, an auditor with Blackburn, Childers and Steagall, PLC, shared with the students about the scope of her duties and various auditing experiences she has had. She addressed public accounting and the tax field.

Glenn Black '06 shares his experiences working in a corporate atmosphere with current Tusculum students.

Later in the week, the students learned about another job option in accounting from Glenn Black ’06. He shared with the students about his position as a corporate accountant with Forward Air. Black also talked about graduate school and taking the Certified Public Accountancy exam.

On April 26, Leanne Lietzke ’07 was the special guest. An assurance senior with Ernst & Young, she gave an overview of the international firm’s operations and spoke about career opportunities in public accounting, specifically auditing. Lietzke works in the Atlanta office of the firm and she shared with the students some of her experiences working with various clients. A triple major while at Tusculum – accounting, management and mass media, Lietzke has been able to draw on her media background in her position, which has a focus on the media and entertainment industry.

Later the class heard from Curtis Morrison ‘95, a  CPA with Rodefer Moss and Company. Morrison talked with the students about planning an audit in real world circumstances.

Jeremiah Peterson ’09 was the guest speaker at the School of Business’s banquet at the end of the spring semester. Peterson shared with the students his experiences in graduate school at Boston College. He also spoke about taking the CPA exam and his career experiences working in tax with Price Waterhous Coopers in Boston.
