‘Up, Up and Away’ event raises funds for National History Day

Auctioneer Eddie Yokley takes bids on a punch bowl set during the Up, Up and Away event sponsored by the Andrew Johnson Heritage Association on Aug. 6. The set is being displayed by Leah Walker, left, site and events manager for the Museums of Tusculum College, and Dollie Boyd, interim director of the museums program at Tusculum. The Up, Up and Away fundraising event featured live music from the Wild Honeybeans and the Smooth Sounds of Route 66 as well as delicious hors d’ouevres by Signature Caterers and the auction. The event raised several thousand dollars to be used for National History Day efforts in local schools. The Andrew Johnson Heritage Association provides support for the local National History Day events, which has provided an opportunity for students to learn about local, American and world history as well as to compete successfully on the district, state and national level.
