Community Chorus to present Christmas concert Monday, Dec. 9

The Tusculum College Community Chorus will present its annual Christmas Concert on Monday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Annie Hogan Byrd Auditorium on the Tusculum College campus.

David Hendricksen is the conductor for the group; James Winfree is accompanist.  There is no admission charge for the concert.

The Community Chorus will be joined by guest artist, Charles Tunstall who will accompany the choir in several selections, and perform his own solo guitar arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.”

The program features a set of 10 carols by Alfred Burt, drawn from the 15 that he composed over the years as Christmas greetings to family and friends.  A variety of other carol settings and seasonal music fill out the program.  Soloists in the concert include Beth Brimer, Jill Jones, Joe Kilday, John Maddux, Jody Palm, Erin Hensley Schultz, Karin Small, and Phil Thwing.

Another highlight will be the performance of two works by regional composers.  “One Silent Night” is a setting by composer and King University professor Ann Holler of a text written by John Wakefield, a retired music professor from Milligan College.  “The Snow Lay on the Ground” is a setting for women’s voices of this traditional carol by Beth Perkinson McCoy, of Abingdon, Va.

Founded in 1996 as a way to involve singers from throughout the community in a broad range of sacred and secular repertoire, the Tusculum College Community Chorus has grown to over 50 singers.  For further information, please contact conductor David Hendricksen at 638-0409 or conductordavid@embarqmail.com.
