Poet to read from collection of works at Clem Allison Gallery on Tusculum campus

GREENEVILLE –Matt Hart, a writer, professor and musician, will read a selection of his poetry during an event Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Clem Allison Gallery on Tusculum University’s Greeneville campus.

Hart is chair of liberal arts at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where he teaches multiple genres in creative writing and aesthetics, among other courses. He also plays and sings in the punk rock bands TRAVEL and The Loudest Sounder.

“Matt Hart is a maniacal, poetic genius; his words burn with an intense and glinting coolness,” says Dr. Desirae Matherly, chairwoman of Tusculum’s English and Fine Arts Department. “You’ve never heard poetry exactly like this – a teacup crashing and then coming together again in cyclical shatterings.”

Hart has published several books ranging from poetry collections to fiction novels, including “Everything Breaking/For Good,” “Debacle Debacle” and “Radiant Action.” His awards include the 2017 Pushcart Prize, a 2013 individual artist grant from The Shifting Foundation and fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Warren Wilson College Master of Fine Arts Program for Writers.

Hart earned his MFA in poetry from Warren Wilson in 2002.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
