Tusculum University Band to perform many beloved songs during upcoming spring concert on campus

GREENEVILLE – The Tusculum University Band will take the stage Thursday, May 2, with a diverse and fun concert that will leave the audience smiling as they hear many popular songs from major acts.

The free performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the university’s Greeneville campus. It will feature music from the concert band, the handbell choir, the jazz band and all groups coming together with special guests for the finale.

“This wonderful concert will appeal to audiences of all ages and be trip down memory lane with songs that have stood tall for decades,” said David Price, Tusculum’s director of music. “We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the talents of our excellent band and provide another quality performance for the Tusculum family and the community. Attendees are guaranteed to enjoy themselves.”

The concert band will kick off by performing traditional band pieces such as “The Billboard March,” arranged by Andrew Glover; “With Each Sunset,” written by Richard L. Saucedo; and a four-movement work called “Second Suite in F for Military Band,” written by Gustav Holst.

Next, the handbell choir will perform renditions of several popular pieces, including “Dancing Queen,” arranged by Ron Mallory and Brian Tervo; “Hallelujah,” arranged by Joel Raney; and “The Muppet Show Theme,” arranged by Tervo. The choir will conclude with “Stairway to Heaven,” arranged by Mallory.

Then, the jazz band will entertain the audience with pieces such as “Rise,” arranged by Roger Holmes; “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” arranged by Bob Reed; “MacArthur Park,” arranged by Adrian Drover; and “Malaguena,” arranged by Bob Lowden.

At the concert’s conclusion, special guests will join all of the evening’s musicians. The ensemble will play “I Feel Good,” “Proud Mary” and “Hey Jude.”
