GREEENEVILLE – Tusculum University has signed an agreement with the Washington County school system that will provide a tuition discount for teachers seeking a Master of Arts in education at Tusculum.

The agreement will provide teachers with the opportunity to receive a $500 reduction for each semester they are enrolled full time in the master’s program. To qualify, teachers will need to take at least nine credit hours per semester. This master’s degree can be completed in three full-time semesters, so teachers could obtain as much as $1,500 in tuition discounts.
“We’re pleased to partner with the Washington County school system to provide this opportunity for teachers to expand their own knowledge for the benefit of their students,” said Dr. Tricia Hunsader, dean of Tusculum’s College of Education. “These teachers provide a tremendous service to the community, and our agreement will provide an even more affordable path for them to earn a graduate degree that will serve them well in their career.”
Tusculum offers two concentrations with the Master of Arts in education – special education as well as curriculum and instruction.
The special education concentration leads to an add-on endorsement from the state of Tennessee in comprehensive K-12 and interventionist K-8 special education. In addition to offering a potential career change opportunity, this concentration expands the skill set of a teacher who has students receiving special education services in the regular classroom, Dr. Hunsader said.
The agreement with Washington County is effective immediately, and teachers can begin to receive the tuition discount in August. This is the 23rd school system in Tennessee with which Tusculum has reached an agreement.
