National political strategist to discuss in Zoom presentation the value of working together to resolve issues

GREENEVILLE – The community and Tusculum University family are invited to hear a virtual presentation by a national political strategist who is focused on a bipartisan approach to resolving issues.

Joel Searby

Joel Searby, who serves as national political director for Renew America Movement, will speak via the Zoom platform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19. Those who are interested in this free presentation can participate by logging in at https://bit.ly/3jIP2y8.

Tusculum’s political science program is sponsoring the presentation.

Searby will argue democracy is not a partisan issue and that citizens should insist on political leaders who make good-faith efforts to find areas of cooperation between political parties. In recent years, he has advocated for the idea people can fight for what they believe in without demonizing members of another political party. He advances a third-way approach to politics.

Earlier in his career, Searby was CEO of the largest Republican consulting firm in Florida before becoming a political independent in 2016. He has led independent campaigns for president, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, governor and other elected offices. He is currently senior advisor to Evan McMullin’s U.S. Senate campaign in Utah.

Renew America supports democracy in three ways:

  • Standing alongside principled Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who have the courage to stand up against political extremists across the country
  • Advancing policies needed for a healthy democracy, such as the protection of voting rights
  • Investing in reforms to the democratic process to increase competition and choice in American elections

“We are grateful to Joel for sharing his perspective and encourage the community and the Tusculum family to join us,” said Dr. Mary Cooper, an associate professor of political science at the university. “We value civic engagement and encourage people to share their beliefs through the political process while being respectful to those who hold different views.”
