Prospective traditional undergraduate students can learn more about studying at Tusculum during an open house Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Office of Admission will hold the event from 10 a.m.-noon in the Dr. Nancy B. Moody Lecture Hall in the state-of-the-art Meen Center. The Meen Center is Tusculum’s newest building and one of the main places where students take classes at Tusculum. It is also home to excellent laboratories that serve the many science programs available to the university’s students.

“We are thrilled to welcome prospective students to our gorgeous and historic campus to explore all Tusculum has to offer,” said Zack Kassebaum, Tusculum’s vice president of enrollment management and financial aid. “This will be a great opportunity for students to begin a conversation with us, share their goals and aspirations and move toward the next step in the decision-making process. Our admission team will be ready to listen and work one-on-one with attendees to ensure they have the answers they need about Tusculum.”

During the open house, prospective students will also have an opportunity to speak with representatives of the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Financial Aid. Student Affairs will be able to share details about campus life and ways Tusculum students are able to be leaders and actively involved early in their studies. Financial Aid will be able to explain how Tusculum can make a college degree affordable through scholarships in addition to potential funds from the federal and state governments.

The Office of Admission will also make campus tours available so attendees can see the beauty that abounds at Tennessee’s first higher education institution. Prospective students can then experience the Pioneer Café, where students enjoy the majority of their meals. Then, guests are invited to attend the home football game at 2 p.m. for free.

While the formalities of the open house will last only two hours, prospective students and their families are welcome to come earlier and stay longer. The open house will take place during Tusculum’s Homecoming celebration, so there will be several activities, including a parade at noon. Additionally, many alumni will be on campus to reconnect with classmates, revisit buildings they used and reflect on the wonderful times they had as students.

“This will be a great day for prospective students to experience the ambience of Tusculum and begin imagining themselves as students here,” said Dr. Scott Hummel, the university’s president. “Tusculum faculty members know their students’ names, provide an active and experiential education and mentor our Pioneers during their studies. We are focused on equipping our students to be career-ready professionals.”
