GREENEVILLE<\/strong> \u2013 Tusculum University<\/a> is turning 225 years old, and the community is invited to the birthday party.<\/h3>\n

President Andrew Johnson Museum and Library<\/p><\/div>\n

The first higher education institution in Tennessee will hold Charter Day, a unique celebration on the Greeneville campus to mark the day in 1794 when Tusculum began as Greeneville College. The event will take place Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. in the grassy quad area between the Scott M. Niswonger Commons and McCormick Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cTusculum is proud to have served students from this region and other parts of the country and world for 225 years with a high-quality education,\u201d said Dr. Greg Nelson, Tusculum\u2019s acting president. \u201cWe cherish the relationships we have established and encourage anyone with a connection to Tusculum as well as the community to join us for this terrific event on our historic and beautiful campus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family-friendly event, which is scheduled to last until 1 p.m., will include a free barbecue lunch, soft drinks and a dessert designed specifically for this occasion. Attendees should email events@tusculum.edu<\/a> to RSVP.<\/p>\n

To commemorate this milestone in Tusculum\u2019s history, the university will have the original charter on display. Visitors and members of the Tusculum family are also encouraged to visit the President Andrew Johnson Museum and Library<\/a>, located in a building constructed in 1841, to review more of Tusculum\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you remember Tusculum from long ago or you have been on campus more recently, we welcome everyone and encourage those who attend Charter Day to absorb the university\u2019s rich history dating to the days of Samuel Doak and Hezekiah Balch,\u201d said Jill Salyers, Tusculum\u2019s vice president of institutional advancement<\/a>, marketing and communications. \u201cWe are proud of our Judeo-Christian heritage and our emphasis on civic engagement, which has produced graduates focused not only on achieving success in their profession but also incorporating community service in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
