GREENEVILLE<\/strong> \u2013 A Tusculum University<\/a> biology<\/a> major who has performed strongly in the classroom and demonstrated leadership qualities has earned a scholarship from the Rotary Club of Greeneville<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

Lindy Carter, a senior from Greeneville, received the $1,500 scholarship from the club. She said the scholarship supported her educational goals and enabled her to address the financial challenges of pursuing a college degree. She was attracted to the scholarship because it matches her values of hard work, community and making a positive impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was honestly surprised and incredibly grateful,\u201d Carter said. \u201cIt felt like it was a recognition of the hard work I have put in, but I also know there are so many deserving people out there. I just feel thankful for this opportunity. I am using this scholarship to reduce my tuition cost. This allows me to focus more fully on my academic goals, and for that, I am so grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter, who is also pursuing a minor in psychology<\/a>, plans to become a physician assistant.<\/p>\n

Brandon Farmer, the club\u2019s president, said the only stipulation on the scholarship\u2019s selection was that the recipient be from Greeneville or another part of Greene County. He said Carter has proven to be an exceptional student.<\/p>\n

Dr. Chuck Pearson, assistant dean of the Math<\/a> and Science Division at Tusculum, nominated Carter for the scholarship. He agreed with Farmer\u2019s assessment of her.<\/p>\n

\u201cLindy is a wonderful representative of Greeneville as well as of Tusculum University,\u201d he said. \u201cHer academic performance is consistently and steadily excellent. She has also demonstrated leadership capacities and has emerged as someone we trust to communicate Tusculum\u2019s values to current and future members of this community. I could not be prouder to advise Lindy and to support her for this scholarship.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott Hummel, Tusculum\u2019s president and a club member, praised Carter and Rotary.<\/p>\n

\u201cLindy Carter is an excellent student and represents both Tusculum and Rotary very well,\u201d Dr. Hummel said. \u201cI am also grateful for the Rotary Club for its support of students, especially those from Greene County that remain in Greene County for their education and future career.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said this scholarship also reflects the support Tusculum students receive from multiple organizations and individuals to help make their education affordable.<\/p>\n

Farmer said it is important for the club to award the scholarship.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoing so directly aligns with Rotary’s mission of\u00a0advancing education, promoting peace and improving lives and communities,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>Providing a scholarship also promotes access to education, develops future leaders, multiplies impact and upholds Rotary\u2019s core value of Service Above Self.\u201d<\/p>\n
