’60s<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Henri Weems \u201966<\/strong> and his wife, Elaine, of McLean, VA, visited campus in mid-June. Henri writes, \u201cGrowth of the college over the past years has been remarkable. All the new buildings have been carefully and beautifully designed to reflect the original McCormick Hall arch, balcony and tower. The sports complexes were being used for various summer sports camps, so there was a lot of activity and a lot of people looking at the campus.\u201d\u00a0 After their visit, Henri and his wife created a slide show of some of the photos they took of campus. ’70s<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Steve Scmid \u201972 <\/strong>of South Amboy, NJ, writes that he and his wife enjoyed the alumni event held at the Tusculum House in Princeton last September. He also shared the sad news that his mother, Elizabeth Schmid Betteride, passed away on July 4 at the age of 87 after battling a long illness.<\/p>\n

’90s <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Candace Bellamy \u201991<\/strong> of Austin, TX, has released her first original of EP, \u201cA Thousand Shades of Blue<\/a>,\u201d which is available on iTunes<\/a>, Amazon<\/a> and at Waterloo Records<\/a>. A video for the song \u201cJust One Girl\u201d can be viewed on her website. Some of Austin\u2019s elite musicians play on Candace\u2019s first original EP including Denny Freeman on guitar, Jimi Calhoun on bass, Frosty Smith on drums, Mike Thompson (Eagles) on keyboards, and Bill Carter on acoustic guitar. Also included is a song cowritten by JJ Plasencio (Sixpence None the Richer) featuring his beautiful cello playing. \u00a0The Austin-based soul\/rhythm and blues singer and songwriter has performed in several bands and appeared in the critically acclaimed \u201cPorgy and Bess\u201d at Zach Scott Theatre. She has created a one-woman show, \u201cFollow the Red Lips,\u201d which she has performed in New York City and at universities across the Southeast.<\/p>\n

Lowell and Diane Hensley ’97<\/strong> would like to announce that their daughter Delina Hensley ’97<\/strong> will be appearing in the play, “Honkey Tonk Angels,” presented by the Asheville Community Theatre.\u00a0 \u201cWe know that she worked extremely hard to get the part and we are very proud of her singing and acting abilities,\u201d the write. Darby Wood Hutchinson \u201900<\/strong> of Jefferson City, TN, has been appointed special agent-in-charge of the Knoxville office of the Tennessee Bomb and Arson section of the state Department of Commerce and Insurance\u2019s Fire Prevention Division. In her new position, Darby will supervise seven other agents. She has been employed as a special agent in the section since 2002.<\/p>\n

Cathy E. Dixon \u201902 ’11<\/strong> of White Pine, TN, has been appointed to the 2011 Board of Examiners by the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence Board of Directors. As an examiner, Cathy is responsible for reviewing and evaluation organizations that apply for the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence award program, which recognizes organizations demonstrating excellence in business operations and results. The examiners, who are experts from all sectors of the economy, meet the highest standards of achievement and peer recognition in their fields. All members of the board must complete extensive training in the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.<\/p>\n

Joy Gardner ’06<\/strong> is now in her third season as manager of the Wetlands Water Park in Jonesborough.\u00a0 Gardner oversees a staff of about 80 people. In addition to her duties at the Wetlands Water Park, she coordinates food vendors for Jonesborough Days and coordinates special events during the winter.<\/p>\n

Chris Poore ’08<\/strong> Has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Jefferson County High School. This is Poore\u2019s first head coaching position. The former Tusculum basketball standout had recently been an assistant coach at Scott County High School.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>David Hawk \u201989<\/strong> and his wife Crystal of Greeneville, TN, celebrated the birth of Kaitlyn Grace Hawk on April 22, 2011. Kaitlyn was 6 lbs. 8 oz. and was 19 inches long.<\/p>\n

’50s<\/strong><\/p>\n

William Lee Rutherford \u201950<\/strong> of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Estero, FL, passed away on May 15, 2011. A World War II veteran, he served on the aircraft carrier Antietam<\/em>, where he assisted pilots in landing their plans on the carrier. Mr. Rutherford was employed by Tennessee Eastman and retired in 1986. He coached football and baseball at the Boys Club in Kingsport and officiated high school football games. Mr. Rutherford enjoyed playing golf and played almost every day while living in Florida after his retirement. His survivors include son and Tusculum alumnus Mike Rutherford \u201992<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

’60s<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carl Frank Bell \u201962<\/strong> of Mosheim, TN, passed away July 21, 2011. Mr. Bell was retired from NCR Morristown and was senior job placement coordinator for First Tennessee Human Resources. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Elks Club. Mr. Bell was a member of Whittenburg United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n

’80s <\/strong><\/p>\n

Carolyn Brown-Moser ’87<\/strong> of Dandridge, TN, passed away May 4, 2011. Mrs. Brown-Moser was a regional monitor, agency team leader for the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. She worked for the fair treatment of the disadvantaged and served as a staunch advocate of those who couldn\u2019t speak for themselves. Mrs. Brown-Moser bred, trained and showed Saluki dogs and had a national champion. She participated in rescues of endangered Salukis as an active member of the Saluki Tree of Life Alliance. Mrs. Brown-Moser was an elder of New Hope Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
