Dr. Greg Hawkins has been named assistant to the president for planning and institutional effectiveness at Tusculum College.<\/p>\n
Hawkins came to Tusculum College in June 2010 to serve in a newly created position of assistant vice president for academic affairs, where he coordinated strategic planning and assessment activities, data analysis and reporting, and data collection to determine the feasibility of new academic programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe contributions that Dr. Hawkins has made to institution-wide initiatives have been imperative to provide administration and the Board of Trustees with timely and accurate data upon which to make sound recommendations and decisions. Once strategic initiatives are identified, he has provided project management to keep the project on track and on time.\u00a0 Dr. Hawkins\u2019 leadership and project management skills are paramount to accomplishing the various components of Vision 20\/20 and our strategic goals\u201d, said Dr. Nancy B. Moody, president of Tusculum College.<\/p>\n
Hawkins came to Tusculum College from Clemson University, where he served as associate director for institutional assessment and effectiveness. At Clemson he was integral in the development of a new institution-wide institutional effectiveness reporting process. In addition, he was involved in the design and implementation of special research projects, retention analyses, student engagement and academic progress data analyses, and success and equity issues.<\/p>\n
Hawkins also previously served as the director of the Jim Self Center on the Future for the Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs at Clemson. In that role, he developed and managed grants, contracts and endowments, supervised research activities and programs administered by the center, supervised staff and led strategic planning for the center.<\/p>\n
Hawkins holds a Ph.D. in natural resource policy, as well as a Master of Science degree in natural resource management and a Bachelor of Science in parks, recreation and tourism management from Clemson University. He has taught courses, including research methods for social sciences, recreation resource policy and introduction to environmental science and policy at Clemson.<\/p>\n
He has authored numerous research reports, technical reports and manuals and has given presentations at a number of national and regional conferences, including a presentation on \u201cOnline Assessment Management Systems: Best Practices and Biggest Challenges for Effective Implementation\u201d at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges\u2019 annual meeting this past December. He has authored or co-authored fourteen grants totaling more than $4 million to support youth, environmental, and education projects.<\/p>\n
