Dr. Carlton K. Larsen has been named assistant to the president for planning and institutional effectiveness at Tusculum College.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely pleased to have Dr. Larsen join us at Tusculum College and coordinate our institutional effectiveness efforts,\u201d said Dr. Nancy B. Moody, president of Tusculum College. \u201cHis wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of planning and assessment made him the perfect fit for what we were seeking in this position.\u201d<\/p>\n

He will begin his new duties at Tusculum on July 1.<\/p>\n

Larsen comes to Tusculum from Pennsylvania State University\u2019s Altoona College, where he served as assistant dean for policy and planning, as well as program coordinator for political science. Previously at Penn State Altoona, he served as associate director of academic affairs.<\/p>\n

In his career he has also taught political science at Drake University, Centre College and at Seaton Hall University.<\/p>\n

Dr. Carlton K. Larsen<\/p><\/div>\n

In his position at Penn State Altoona, he assisted in the development of a standing committee on planning and led in the development, collection and analysis of strategic indicators and strategic action items to ensure follow-through on goals and objectives. He also led the preparation of the institution\u2019s strategic plans.<\/p>\n

In his new role at Tusculum, Larsen will be responsible for the collection of institutional effectiveness data for decision making and manage accreditation activities related to regional and specialized program accreditation. He will oversee all college wide external reporting requirements, as well as testing, surveys and student learning assessments. He will provide data support to the administrative leadership and will assist with the forecasting of fiscal and other resource needs for budget development.<\/p>\n

Dr. Larsen has a Ph.D. in political science and international relations and a master\u2019s degree in political science from Rutgers University, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at the University of California at San Diego.<\/p>\n

He has been widely published including articles in Food and Foodways, The Journal of Developing Societies and the Latin American Anthropology Review. He has also served as former chair of the membership committee of the New Political Science Section of the American Political Science Association.<\/p>\n
