Tusculum University is seeking qualified applicants for a TRIO Programs’ Talent Search Academic Advisor serving 9th-12th grade high school students in Greene. This 11-month, full-time outreach position is based at the main Greeneville campus of Tusculum University and reports to the Talent Search Project Director. The Talent Search Academic Advisor will serve Greene County high school students by traveling to assigned high schools weekly to meet with program participants. The Academic Advisor will provide educational and career guidance to students to encourage high school and college completion. Duties include identifying, recruiting, and selecting participants; collecting and maintaining data; conducting small group sessions; designing and participating in program activities (some of which entails physical exertion); collaboration with school personnel and parents. The Talent Search Academic Advisor must have excellent communication skills and an ability to relate to diverse groups of program stakeholders. The position requires occasional evening and/or weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and 2 years of work experience in education, social or behavioral sciences, counseling, student personnel, or related field; candidates must have knowledge and experience working with disadvantaged students and a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the program.
