GREENEVILLE – With Dr. Scott Hummel now serving as president at Tusculum University, the man who led the institution prior to his arrival has returned to a seat on the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Greg Nelson had been a trustee since 2014 and was serving as chairman when the board appointed him acting president in August. Now, he will once again join other trustees in setting the policy direction for Tennessee’s first higher education institution.
“We welcome Dr. Nelson’s return to the board and thank him for providing excellent administrative leadership as we searched for our next president,” said Tom Wennogle, the board’s chairman. “Dr. Nelson will be a tremendous asset to the board with the knowledge he gained the last six months. That information will enable us to make the best decisions for Tusculum.”
In addition, Dr. Nelson will serve as special assistant to the president, assuring that Dr. Hummel will have a strong start by providing helpful details on the many exciting initiatives Tusculum is pursuing. The two will consult regularly in the initial stages of Dr. Hummel’s presidency, which began Monday, Feb. 17.
“It is always beneficial when an organization has a seamless transition in leadership, and I am grateful to have Dr. Nelson’s guidance as I begin my service to Tusculum,” Dr. Hummel said. “Ever since I was selected as president, Dr. Nelson has been extremely gracious in sharing his knowledge and insight into this exceptional university, and I am pleased that will continue. It will be extremely helpful.”
Dr. Nelson said he is happy to remain involved with Tusculum and ensure Dr. Hummel has everything he needs to be successful.
“My knowledge of Tusculum grew exponentially as acting president,” Dr. Nelson said. “I have a much deeper understanding of our university’s strengths and opportunities that I can share with the board as we deliberate and help Dr. Hummel during his presidency. Dr. Hummel will excel as president, and I look forward to working with him as he leads Tusculum.”
