Works by Johnson City artist now on display at Allison Gallery

"Both At Once the Same" is representative of the works in the exhibit as flocks of birds are depicted with the chaotic background.

“Inward Journeys,” an exhibition by Johnson City artist Megan Levacy is now on display at the Allison Gallery on the Tusculum College campus.

Levacy is a mixed media painter from Johnson City, who is currently an instructor at East Tennessee State University. Her exhibit will continue through Oct. 23.

The artist will present a lecture about her work at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, in the Behan Arena Theatre in the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Building on campus. Following the lecture will be a reception for the artist at the Allison Gallery from 5 – 7 p.m. She will return to campus on October 21 to critique work by Tusculum students.

Levacy’s exhibit explores ways of navigating chaotic and unknown situations that arise during periods of transition. Her works are inspired and influenced by photographs of deep space, sunsets over the mountains of East Tennessee and images of major disasters such as volcanic explosions and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Over these images, Levacy depicts flocks of birds flying toward unknown destinations in a variety of patterns.

"Suspension" is another of the artworks featured in the exhibit on display through October 23.

Her works have been exhibited nationwide, including Tennessee, North Carolina, Illinois, New York, South Carolina and Arkansas. She graduated in the spring with a master of fine of arts in painting at ETSU and also holds a master of arts in painting and a bachelor of fine arts in photography and printmaking at Arkansas State University. Examples of her past and current work can be found at the artist’s website, www.meganlevacy.com, and on the artist’s studio blog, http://crythebird.wordpress.com/.

The Allison Gallery is open from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
