Seniors celebrate their time at Tusculum College during events

lantern2During their last hectic week before graduation, seniors took the time for fellowship with friends, to remember their time at Tusculum College, and to pass their legacy on to underclassmen.

On May 4, students gathered for the Lantern Festival, one of the longest-running traditions of the College. Seniors Chanaine Hunter, Ryan Guillot, Amanda Kyker, and William Kelly addressed their classmates, reminiscing about their time and experiences at Tusculum.

Dressed in their commencement robes, seniors individually came forward and presented their lanterns to underclassmen, telling why they had chosen the student to receive the lantern, the symbol of the senior’s legacy. The ceremony is traditionally held outside just after dusk, but had to be moved inside to the Thomas J. Garland Library due to inclement weather.

On May 6, the Senior Reception was held at the General Morgan Inn. After fellowship with their friends while enjoying some heavy hors d’oeuvres, seniors presented “Lantern Awards” to professors who have made a significant impact on their lives.

As the celebration ended, the class members participated in a toast to the Class of 2009.

A less formal event for the seniors was held the next night at Ella’s, a restaurant in Greeneville that features performances by local artists.
