Dr. Mazen Al-Saqa to speak on Christians in Iraq, Wednesday, Oct. 5

Dr. Mazen Al-Saqa, a refugee from Iraq, will visit the Tusculum College campus on Wednesday, October 5, to speak about the situation of Iraqi Christians in Iraq. His presentation will be held at 12:15 p.m. in the Hurley Room inside the Cafeteria in Niswonger Commons. Those attending the presentation will be provided lunch.

Dr. Al-Saqa will discuss what it is like to be a Christian in a Muslim country, especially in light of the massacre of Christians in Iraq that left 53 dead. The program is sponsored by Religious Life, Church and Community Relations and is part of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.

Dr. Al-Saqa is a medical doctor currently studying to practice medicine in the United States at Wayne State University Medical School in Royal Oak, Mich. He was born in Mosul, Iraq (old Nineveh), where he served in the Presbyterian Church as youth leader, assistant lay pastor and doctor in the church clinic. Following the kidnapping and murder of his father, he fled to Jordan and in 2009 he was granted refugee status.

No reservations are required, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
