Tusculum College premieres first-ever marching band at first home football game

Tusculum College’s first-ever marching band debuted Saturday when the Tusculum Pioneers played the University of West Georgia in their first home game of the season.

The band, led by David A. Price, director of music and special events for Tusculum College, is 46-members strong this year and performed before and after the game as well as put on its first-ever half-time show.

“We are so proud of these students and how far the Tusculum College Band Program has come in just one year,” said Price. “The students have worked so hard to get us to this point, and I expect that their performance will continue to improve with each performance because of the effort made by each and every one of them.”

The Tusculum College band program finished a successful first year last spring with two concerts in the spring, a Jazz Band concert and a combined concert of the Jazz Band, Concert Band and Tusculum College Handbell Choir.

The Tusculum Band Program began its fledgling year with a Pep Band in the fall, which played for home football games, alumni events and at Tusculum College basketball games. From that, the program has grown to include a Concert Band, Jazz Band, Handbell Choir and a variety of ensembles.

On Saturday, the program officially unveiled their marching band, complete with drum major and a 10-person flag corps.
