Tusculum College’s Andy Goellner recognized in national magazine

Tusculum College’s Andrew Goellner was named to the Sports Launch “Thirty Under 30” list of young professionals in the field of sports management. An article featuring Goellner, a senior, and the 29 other college students and young working adults appeared in the April edition of the publication.

The Thirty Under 30 Awards were established to recognize college students and young professionals under the age of 30 who epitomize one or more of the attributes within the sports industry: hard work, innovation, creativity, leadership and entrepreneurship.

Goellner, who is from Denver, Colo., is a captain for the Tusculum Men’s soccer team and is a triple major in sport management, business and accounting. He has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for his academic success.

He has also served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Dale Gibson, professor of physical education.

“Andrew one of the best, if not the best, sport management student I have taught,” said Gibson. “His dedication to a quality education extends well beyond an extremely high grade point average or academic expectations. He is a true practitioner. He volunteers with sport agencies and businesses to put theory into practice. He demonstrates an action oriented curriculum. He is and will continue to model the highest standards of exemplary character and academic achievement.”

Goellner has worked with the Rocky Mountain Soccer Camps and in his first job he not only worked as a coach, but wrote and implemented the goalkeeping curriculum for the program.

His dream is to be the general manager of a major league sports team and to “become one of the most respected and successful sports executives in the country.”

At Tusculum College he was recently honored with two physical education academic awards, the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Outstanding Major Award and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
