Registration now open for community to enter LEGO building contest at Old Oak Festival

GREENEVILLE – Registration has opened for the fourth annual LEGO® building contest, a popular way for community members to demonstrate their creativity and love of history as part of the Old Oak Festival at Tusculum University.

The contest goes by the name LEGO® Contest 2019, and the theme this year is world monuments. This fun activity for people of all ages, organized by the Doak House Museum, will result in a deeper understanding of world history.

Specifically, the contest calls for participants to use LEGO® or other compatible plastic bricks to design and build something that represents any aspect of this history. Potential examples include the Washington Monument, the Arc de Triomphe, Mount Rushmore and the Taj Mahal.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for people to use their imagination and develop projects that will contribute to the appreciation of world history,” said Dollie Boyd, Tusculum’s director of museums. “We have enjoyed offering this contest and hope it inspires people not only to construct something special but also expand their knowledge of our past.”

Prizes will be awarded in five categories – kindergarten through second grade, second through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, ninth through 12th grade and adults. Within each category, there will be first, second and third place winners.

Throughout the Old Oak, attendees will be able to vote on their overall favorite project. Judging in the individual categories will take place Saturday, April 13, from 1-2 p.m., with the awards ceremony happening Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m.

Completed projects must be delivered to the museum between Monday, April 8, and Friday, April 12. The museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
