Santa, carols and gingerbread houses enhance Christmas season during special event at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE – Bringing further excitement and wonder to the holiday season, Tusculum University is inviting the community to rejoice in song and experience the beauty of the Greeneville campus at night with a progressive Christmas tour.

The university will hold “Follow Me Through Tusculum’s Paths” Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5:15 p.m. This event will enable participants to sing carols, see decorated gingerbread houses and provide children an opportunity to share their wish lists with Santa Claus.

The can’t-miss event kicks off at Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Center, where people will enjoy delicious hot chocolate and listen to Marilyn duBrisk, Tusculum’s artist-in-residence, and a team of carolers delight the audience with a selection of inspiring songs. Afterward, participants will walk by Virginia and McCormick halls, two of Tusculum’s oldest and most revered buildings, on lighted paths as they join the carolers in a variety of moving Christmas songs.

The group will then head to the Scott M. Niswonger Commons, where Santa will be seated by the fireplace to visit with children who want to tell him what they would like for Christmas. Attendees can also view lovely gingerbread houses that have been decorated with great care by Tusculum students.

The event will conclude at 6:30 p.m. with a return to Annie Hogan Byrd, where the university will light Tusculum’s official Christmas tree in front of the building. Then, guests can head inside Annie Hogan Byrd to enjoy finger foods and additional conversation. That will lead into the Tusculum Band’s annual Christmas concert for those interested in attending. The concert will start at 7 p.m. in the building’s theatre.

All activities, including the concert, are free.

“We encourage everyone to mark their calendars for this terrific event, which will enhance your Christmas experience,” said Nicole Rader, Tusculum’s director of special events. “Tusculum values its connections with the community, and ‘Follow Me Through Tusculum’s Paths’ will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy a fun and memorable experience on our historic campus.”
