GREENEVILLE – An upbeat concert with familiar songs will greet guests who attend the Tusculum University Community Band Concert Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The Tusculum University Community Band performs its pops concert in 2023.
The band will perform “A Pops Spectacular” at 7 p.m. in the Marilyn duBrisk Theatre of Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Center. The event at Tusculum is free and appropriate for all ages.
“Be prepared to have a fantastic time as the band performs a nice array of songs that will have you ready to sing along,” said Dr. David Gonzalez, the conductor and the university’s director of bands. “We love to entertain the community, and our band will be ready with another terrific show that will bring smiles to the audience.”
Here are the numbers, with some of the songs they include:
- “Cartoon Carnival,” arranged by Jack Bullock – theme songs from the “The Flintstones” and “The Jetsons”
- “Fantasy of Flight” by John Williams – songs from “ET,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Star Wars”
- “Best of the West,” arranged by Michael Story – songs from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “The Magnificent Seven”
- “Broadway Showstoppers Overture” by Warren Barker – “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “That’s Entertainment”
- Selections from “Hunchback of Notre Dame”
- Selections from “The Wizard of Oz”
“This will be another rousing performance by the band and will definitely be a crowd-pleaser,” said Rouja Green, director of Tusculum’s Center for the Arts. “We encourage everyone to join us for this wonderful event, which will showcase the band’s talent. We are thrilled to engage with the community and love to have people join us on campus for the broad spectrum of arts we present.”
The band is a blend of community members and Tusculum students that plays at multiple events during the year. In the first half of the year, the band will have a performance in May on campus that will feature symphonic music and then be part of the community celebration during the July 4 weekend in downtown Greeneville.
While the band’s performances are free, donations are always welcome. People can leave a donation at the event or visit www.tusculum.edu/giving and select the band and music program in the two dropdown menus. One of the immediate goals of the university’s band program is to raise $7,500 to purchase 15 additional marching uniforms.
