Theatre-at-Tusculum, in collaboration with the English program, will hold auditions in Behan Arena Theatre Sunday, March 9, and Monday, March 10, from 6-9 p.m. Steve Schultz, director of Tusculum Arts Outreach, who will oversee the production, is seeking people older than 15 to fill 12-25 roles in the plays.

“This special production provides high-quality entertainment that enables audiences to experience the joy of theater in brief and compelling stories performed by their friends and fellow community members,” Schultz said. “We encourage new and experienced actors to participate in the auditions and display their skill in this wonderful format.”

The “5 X 10 Plays” have traditionally consisted of five plays lasting about 10 minutes apiece that are written by Tusculum students, faculty and staff members and residents of Greene County. Tusculum offers this production, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023, every other year as part of its comprehensive arts program.

Due to the caliber of submissions, Schultz has decided to expand the number of plays to seven this year. The names of the plays and their writers are:

  • “Home for Christmas” by Cheyenne Hewitt
  • “In a Pickle” by Tate Haugen
  • “The Final Stage” by Z.T. Mitchell
  • “Sleeping Upstairs” by Bella Gall
  • “Dead Mom’s Club” by Dodger Kirkland
  • “The Phone Call” by Abigail Malone
  • “White Cane Boy” by Tim Hagans and Steve Schultz

Performances will be held April 25, April 26, May 2 and May 3 at 7 p.m. and April 27 and May 4 at 2 p.m. in the Behan.

“We are thrilled to once again hold the ‘5 X 10 Plays,’ which enrich personal lives through their creativity and innovative style,” Schultz said. “These plays might take a different approach from the longer-form shows we perform, but they still maintain our commitment to provide the best theater experience for our guests.”
