GREENEVILLE – Tusculum University is hosting a weeklong Christian camp in the summer that could bring hundreds of middle school and high school students to campus for further faith development and the opportunity to serve others.

FUGE Camps will enable students who have completed 6th grade through 12th grade to grow further in their faith and experience the ambience of Tennessee’s first higher education institution June 9-13. Students will enhance their understanding of the Bible, enjoy abundant activities and participate in ministry.
“We welcome the opportunity to bring these students to campus for FUGE Camps so they can build on their relationships with God and develop connections with each other and the community,” said Dr. Scott Hummel, Tusculum’s president. “Providing the opportunity for people to spend more time with the Lord and draw closer to God’s word is important to all of us. We are excited to support these students and know they will enjoy a fruitful week on our campus.”
FUGE Camps, an organization of Lifeway Christian Resources, will attract groups of churches. The students will participate in one of the two types of camps the organization offers – Centrifuge and MFuge.
The two camp styles have a common denominator – Bible study and quiet time in the morning and worship and church group time in the evening. The difference is Centrifuge participants engage in recreational activities, called tracks, in the afternoon, while the MFuge groups spend that time at ministry sites.
MFuge is designed to give students a mission experience that opens their eyes to similar opportunities they may have to serve in their own communities. They learn to lead life each day on a mission. Centrifuge offers creative, active, performance- and classroom-based activities, such as crafts, Leadership 101, gaga ball, creative journaling and defending your faith.
As part of MFuge, FUGE Camps is partnering with local organizations to assist with cleanup efforts in the community related to Hurricane Helene.

FUGE Camps describes its weeklong event as exciting, fun, loud and occasionally messy and says every moment is intentional. The organization said programming is intended to take students away from their normal routine and put them in an environment focused on life change through a relationship with Jesus.
“The FUGE Camps team is looking forward to being at Tusculum for the very first time this summer,” said Joe Hicks, the organization’s manager. “We love partnering with new locations to provide more opportunities for student ministries to come together each summer to grow in their faith and make lasting memories.”
The entry of FUGE Camps at Tusculum will be the newest summertime event for children at the university. The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science Summer Academy takes place annually in June on campus. In addition, Tusculum holds a variety of other camps, such as theater, woodworking and pioneer skills, during the summer.
“We are thrilled to have younger students on campus during the summer so they can enrich their lives while experiencing a collegiate atmosphere,” said Greg Fay, Tusculum’s director of continuing education and camps. “As a faith-based university, we are pleased to nurture their spiritual needs and help them as they discern their calling and their purpose. We are delighted to host FUGE Camps and watch these students emerge from this camp stronger in their faith.”
