DESCRIPTION:

Tusculum University is seeking qualified applicants for Upward Bound Academic Advisor serving 9th-12th grade students in Cocke and Hawkins Counties. This 12-month, full-time position reports to the Project Director of Cocke/Hawkins Upward Bound and requires routine evening and weekend work. The Academic Advisor provides educational and career guidance to high school students as part of the university’s Upward Bound program which is designed to encourage high school and college completion. Duties include identifying, recruiting, and selecting participants; collecting and maintaining data; conducting small group sessions; designing and participating in program activities (some activities require physical exertion); collaboration with school personnel and parents. The Upward Bound Academic Advisor must have a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the program and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and 2 years’ work experience in education, social or behavioral sciences, student personnel, or related field; candidates must have knowledge and experience working with disadvantaged students and a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the program.
