BRIEF JOB SUMMARY:
Each faculty member at Tusculum University is an integral part of teaching and mentoring students and enacting the University’s mission. In support of that mission, faculty should advance all components of the mission statement. This includes the university’s faith-based tradition, which emphasizes closeness of faculty-student involvement, both within and outside the classroom, in order to cultivate citizenship, Christian character, and practical wisdom among members of the University community. As a part of that mission, the university is committed to creating a campus climate in which the Christian faith is reasonably and persuasively presented and in which the university offers a program of quality education in the liberal arts and sciences with the concept of the wholeness of life as interpreted by the Christian faith.
With that in mind, faculty are responsible for providing quality in-class instruction, mentoring students outside the classroom, serving on university committees, and engaging in other service that helps to further the University’s mission. Tusculum faculty are responsible for teaching a minimum of 12-15 credits (pending rank) in each of the fall and spring semesters, advising, service, scholarship, and professional development.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum required qualifications include the following:
- Credentialed to teach in a discipline area within the Division
- Teaching experience in higher education
- Experience with curriculum design
- Experience in academic administration with progressive levels of responsibility
Preferred Qualifications include the following:
- 3-5 years of teaching experience in higher education
- An understanding of budgets and strategic planning
- 18 graduate hours in the discipline are required
- Master’s degree or PhD preferred
- Mastery of technological competencies that facilitate 21st-century literacies is preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports and promotes the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Tusculum University to all faculty, staff, students and the community at large
- Co-Leads, with Dean of Business, Education and Sports Studies, the delivery, management, improvement, growth, and viability of all curricular and co-curricular programs within the Division
- Provides positive supervision of program coordinators and faculty including faculty observations, promotion support letters, and evaluations
- Collaborates with Dean and VPAA on any needed improvement plans for Division faculty
- Coordinates the use of budgets and human resources to ensure programs contribute to the achievement of the division and institutional missions, to include the hiring of adjuncts as needed.
- Leads, with program coordinators and program faculty, data-informed development, modification, and elimination of curricular and co-curricular programs
- Develops program- and college-specific policies in conjunction with other members of the Academic Council
- Leads course scheduling and course material adoption processes with assistance from administrative assistant(s) and program coordinators.
- Interprets the work of the Division to the internal and external community
- Ensures that syllabi are present for each course with the help of an administrative assistant
- Collaborates on efforts aimed at the recruitment of students and associated enrollment plans including attending recruiting events to represent unit (or assist with finding a representative)
- Represents Tusculum University and the Division at events and on committees internal and external to the College
- Teaches courses as needed, with a 9-credit release over the academic year. No more than six credits can be used in any given semester. Limited to no more than 6 credits of overload per semester
- Follows academic and other related administrative policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
