Brief Job Description:

Reporting to the President and serving on the President’s Executive Cabinet Team, the CHRO provides leadership and hands-on direction to all aspects of Tusculum University’s people management function, Supervisory experience required.  This is a strong business partnership position, providing counsel and serving as a coach/mentor to key stakeholders and leaders on all matters related to human resources.  In addition, this position plays a key leadership role with executive planning and strategic decision making impacting the entire campus.   This role is a Mission-driver; actively promoting and delivering sound advice, programs, policies and initiatives which are effective in supporting overall goals and objectives of the institution.  Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.  5 years of progressively more responsible work experience as a HR professional, preferably in an academic setting; specialized training in multi-disciplined HR functions; professional certification preferred.  Supervisory experience and excellent communications, analytic, computer, and financial acumen experience required.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to human resources at a private university;
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, benefits negotiations and administration, safety, training, and /or labor relations, required; PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SHRM BASK or equivalent professional certification preferred;
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community outreach/involvement preferred;
  • Strong financial and analytical modeling/forecasting experience required through the use of excel and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Experienced in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other HR recognition and engagement programs and processes; and
  • Evidence of the ability to practice and coach organization managers in the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must demonstrate a record of high character and collegial behavior.
  • Has the ability to follow and execute verbal and written instructions.
  • Utilize logic to ascertain solutions to problems.
